January 2026 – An update from Matt

Happy New year to all of our Members

As we head into the heart of winter, I’d like to take a moment to remind everyone to please take extra care both on and off the courts. We’ve already experienced a number of frosty mornings, and it’s likely there will be plenty more to come. Even if the courts don’t look icy, surfaces can still be slippery – particularly early in the day. Please take a moment to check the court surface before you start playing and don’t take any unnecessary risks. Your safety always comes first.

Adult Coaching Programme – This Term

We are delighted to be getting back into our full adult coaching programme for the new term. Whether you’re looking to improve your technique, sharpen your match play, boost your fitness, or simply enjoy some structured hitting in a friendly environment, there really is something for everyone.

These sessions are a fantastic way to stay motivated through the winter months, meet other members, and keep progressing with your tennis. Each session has its own WhatsApp group, which is used to keep you updated week by week on weather conditions and session confirmations. Please do join any groups that you think you may like to attend.  There will be a message sent out on the Felixstowe Lawn Tennis Club announcement page on WhatsApp tomorrow with links to all of the groups. If you’re unsure which session would be best suited to your level, please don’t hesitate to speak to any of the coaching team – we’ll be more than happy to help guide you.

Junior Coaching – Weekday & Saturday Sessions

Alongside our adult programme, we continue to offer a wide range of junior coaching throughout the week, as well as our much-loved Saturday morning sessions.

Saturday mornings are truly a special part of the club. Designed to be fun, inclusive, and welcoming, these sessions cater for all ages and abilities – from children picking up a racket for the very first time, to keen and experienced young players who want to start their weekend with energy, enjoyment, and plenty of tennis.

These sessions have been running at the club for many decades and remain something we’re incredibly proud of. There’s no need to book in advance – simply turn up and pay as you play. We do have a Saturday morning WhatsApp group, so please make sure you’re a member to receive updates on special events or any cancellations due to weather.

We are planning to restart Saturday mornings on Saturday 24th or Saturday 31st January, with confirmation to follow in the coming week.

Midweek Junior Coaching Programme

Our midweek junior coaching programme is designed for children who are keen to further their tennis journey and develop their skills in a more structured environment.

These groups run on a termly basis and require commitment for the full term, allowing us to plan sessions carefully and ensure consistent progression. Groups are kept to strict coach-to-player ratios so that every child receives quality coaching, remains engaged, and feels supported.

We’ve seen fantastic development from children in this programme, with many now competing in tournaments – which is brilliant to see and a real testament to their hard work and enthusiasm. Whether a child’s goal is to play competitively or simply gain confidence and enjoyment from the sport, this programme provides a strong foundation.

More Competition Opportunities Coming Soon

We’re also looking to introduce more internal competitive opportunities for both juniors and adults over the coming months. These will include fun but competitive events designed to challenge players, encourage match play, and bring members together. Keep an eye out – more details will be shared very soon.

London Marathon 2026 & Fundraising for Dementia UK

Finally, some personal news – I’m very proud (and slightly nervous!) to say that I’ll be lining up on the start line of the London Marathon 2026, aiming for a hat-trick of marathons.

Once again, I’ll be running in support of Dementia UK, a cause that is incredibly close to my heart. Many of you know that I’m fundraising in memory of my Dad, as well as close friends who have been affected by this devastating disease.

Dementia UK’s Admiral Nurses provide life-changing support to families facing dementia – offering specialist guidance, emotional support, and practical advice at the times it’s needed most. The work they do makes an enormous difference, not just to those living with dementia, but to the loved ones supporting them every day.

To support the fundraising, I’ll be organising a number of club events throughout the year, including the annual Dementia UK Tennis Tournament, a Tennis & Darts Combo Tournament, and a Quiz Night – all great opportunities to get involved, have some fun, and support a truly worthwhile cause.
